  • Hello From Kingsbury Village

Just Joined the ranks today, so thought I had better introduce myself Personal is Martyn ( note the spelling) Lol. So where is my village I hear you ask its 5 miles South of Tamworth Staffs although strictly speaking its now part of North Warwickshire. I was born here but spent a great 28 odd years up in Yorkshire and Have recently returned and I must say I am loving every moment so far!
I have recently built a South facing leanto type greenhouse about 12 feet long
I have a 3/4 built home made 3x2.3 metre poly tunnel on a raised bed system just got the cover delivered so will finish it off next week I still have the doors to construct I have also just constructed a diy wormery and also dug a garden pond so not been hanging about If we have anybody who lives close-ish to me then why not give me a nudge.
By the way I have been unable to drive for nearly 20 years so its all the more exciting to get things done
I hope to gain a few friends by being here so come on folks don't be too shy

Hello, and welcome to the Madhouse! What are you planning on growing this year? Yes, we're a nosey lot, and we love pictures of anything garden related, especially home made Greenhouses and Polytunnels.

Hi and thanks for the reply, yes I will have to get the camera out and show you the handy work give me a few days for that thou :-)
Right then I forgot to add that I recently also joined our local village Leek and Onion club so of course they will be attempted this year other things of note I have today got the greenhouse with some heat and growlight metal halide type so really looking forwards to what I can produce.
At the moment I am trying out several of the large Russian plants and thier version of a very sweet cherry tomato plus Giant Celery and hot Chillies later on as in Autumn I will try to sow their Giant Onion and Leek seeds I am buying plants of those from a club member this year as I am late in joining the club
Things of other interest english variants Shirley type cordon tomato Carmen F1 Cucumber, the statuary Little Gem Lettuces , have just sown some old sweetie toms as well today they may grow or may be too old so they could be fun ( I like to give a lot of my surplus stuff away that able to grow out-doors so no I aint sowing too many also I am researching Hydroponics thats still at the drawing board stages but once mind made up I prefer to get stuck in and get on with it ;-)
Err what else can I tell you I am trying out a couple of apple trees and several herbs from seed. plus the usual stuff a few types of potatoes in bags as I only have a small area of cultivating purpose. I have intentions of growing peas Beans runner and french or Broad. Beetroot also is a favorite. Courgettes in a contain is also on the cards I could go on but I am getting tired telling you all this fair wears me out LOL!
I had better hand it back now for more comments or questions

Hello and a very warm welcome to the Vine. I am a particularly shy and retiring type, so it will be good for somebody to bring me out of my shell.
