    I call it horrible.

I think part of the reason it looked fairly neat and tidy is because I don't grow flowers, as a rule. If I can't eat it, it's not worth my time. So apart from the vegetable beds, there's not much there. The lawn is mostly dandelions (who cares, they're all green, right?). I did have two small lavender bushes between the top two beds nearest the greenhouse, although I've had to dig one up because someone wanted to put a fence post there.

That's why I'm starting to look at companion planting. I don't mind growing things for bees & such, particularly if they're low-maintenance, non-invasive, and have the potential to help the veg. So I'm currently considering hyssop, lovage & borage. What I don't know is whether you're supposed to plant them actually amongst the veg, or just somewhere nearby.

You might get some good threads, once I've found my way around. There are apparently people on here that know me, but who cunningly use different usernames so I won't recognise them.

I do predict a certain amount of thread overlap, but I'll try to keep it to a minimum.

Yeah, it's a bit grim, isn't it? I'm not painting it though - it's much less effort to wait for it to fade.

Hi Mr.B.E., welcome to the Vine

Couldn't help but notice you mentioned growing Lovage, and that you wanted non-invasive?! Lovage... Ummm... Mine is now taking up a 2.5ft space, and gets taller than 6ft when it flowers... And it's only been in the ground 3 years, from a 1litre pot Careful where you plant it

The brown ones on the vine? Kumato; bought one in the south of France in 2009. Tried to find seed out there but no luck, so brought 2 home and saved the seed. Happily, it seems pretty true to type.

Sorry, but I just can't resist - WOULD YOU LIKE SOME SEED?
