I'm not new to growing veg, I've been attempting it for a few years now. I'm short on space though, so I have to pick and choose what I do grow. That usually means I'm trying something new each year, so I tend to drop by here to get any info I need on it. It's bloomin' great here.

Flummery, I used to live just north of London so the climate up here does feel a bit different. But, surprisingly, I don't think it's that much more windy than it was down south. There have been a couple of really strong blasts over the couple of years I've been here but, generally, I think it's similar strength. Maybe the garden is protected a bit by the surrounding houses. I probably need a trip to Spurn Point in mid-winter to get the full experience.

What I have noticed is we are a couple of weeks behind the south when it comes to warming up after winter. But on the plus side, the air is much clearer up here, and it doesn't feel so oppressive when it is warm. Swings and roundabouts.

Hi, Jo Sara, and welcome from me in Sunny Sheffield. I'm off to East Yorkshire in a couple of weeks on me jollies to farm near Flamborough, so make sure you get rid of that cold wind.

Hi, Roger. I've never been to Flamborough. It's one on my list to visit though. I love all these coastal places I can easily get to now. I used to live as far away from the sea in any direction as you could get. It was a serious expedition to get to the coast. Hope you have a good holiday in Flamborough. Will you be popping over to Bempton Cliffs to see the seabird colony? That's as close as I've got to Flamborough. It was a bit brisk at Bempton in March last year. I'm sure it's much better in May.

Hi SawPaw and Ginger Ninger. Lovely cats, both of you. We've got two black and white tuxedo cats. Mollie is 13 and Swede is 19 and a half (got to count the halves at that age, bless her).

This year I will optimistically be trying to fit into my 1.5m x 1m veg bed - two 50cm rows of carrots, two 50cm rows of spring onions, 9 sweetcorn plants, a 50cm row of shelling peas, 8 climbing french bean plants, 9 broad bean plants, and maybe a courgette, I'm seeing how the space fills out. I've had similar size plantings in other years and we get enough veg for what we need. And I am borrowing space elsewhere, like on the patio for my strawberry trough, 2 pots of raspberry canes, 3 bags of potatoes, and 2 blueberry bushes. I've got my mangetout climbing up the fence. Oh, and this year I've got 3 hanging baskets of tumbling toms on the go. Think that's it.

We'll never go self-sufficient off of it, but it's nice to have some homegrown.

As for pics, I need to have a read how to get them on here, haven't quite worked that out.
