Hi everyone I have just taken on an allotment which has been untouched for a long time so I have been busy clearing it. I have never had an allotment or my own garden so its a bit daunting. I hope to grow tatties, onions, garlic, strawbs, carrots, cabbage and other bits and bobs........wish me luck.

Welcome, good luck, and don't forget to put Inverness in your location so you can get the best advice for up there. Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made
By singing-'Oh how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade,
While better men than we go out and start their working lives
At grubbing weeds from gravel paths with broken dinner-knives. ~ Rudyard Kipling

Hi and welcome to the Vine from me too.
My best advice would be, don't try to tame your new allotment all in one go, you'll only get disheartened. Clear enough space to plant or sow what you want to now, and cover the rest with something like brown cardboard (weighted down). This will help suppress the weeds until you are ready to reclaim the next bit, and will eventually rot down into the soil too. Wishing you a successful growing season.
