Hello, another newbie here

Hello, just registered after having lurked for a little while. I've been learning so much and just wanted to say 'thank you' to everyone for sharing your knowledge. OH and I are learner gardeners and enthusiastically reading everything we can on the subject We've only had our garden for a few weeks but we have some cabbages, broccoli and kale in for the winter and are waiting for our onion sets and garlic to arrive in the post.

We've learned that debris netting is a top gardening tool. We soon learned why the elders were stunted and leaning. So the veggie plots not only have netting over the brassicas to keep out the cabbage white's but also have wind break fencing around them to lessen the impact of the 'slight breeze' we have up here

There's nothing wrong with spending lot's of time in the garden...that's what I say. I had my chiminea lite a few weeks ago and I woke up at 20 past 12...at night . Jinny was curled up in the chair at the side of me

It never really gets dark in the summer here, so I suspect we'll be out in garden very late. At the moment though, the days are shortening rapidly. A chiminea sounds like a very good idea

It's a lovely community you have joined here and you're right, no matter what the question is (and believe me there are some strange ones and not always to do with gardening) someone will have the answer. Same for me, just across the water from you. I also would suggest a polytunnel, if you have the space and find the cash. Not easy I know, when you have just got a new home, but well worth the investment. I wouldn't be with mine.

A polytunnel is next on the list :-) We are saving up and hopefully will be able to order one in March or April. We have pegged out the ground where we want it to be and keep standing in the middle trying to imagine what it will be like :-)
