Hi! I'm a newbie as of today 3/7/2012. i have a question if anyone can answer it I'd really appreciate it! I used to get Horseradish plants & roots from my Grandfathers Farm that was located just outside of Cameron, WVa. The roots of the Horseradish there were one or two large fat roots not the little spindly stuff you see in some SuperMarkets! Does anyone know the strain/type of Horseradish I've described & where can I get some to grow here in Zephyrhills, Florida where I'm located now. I hope someone can help me with my quest. It was the strongest/best Horseradish I've ever tasted, but sure was a bugger to grind,it opened up sinuses you didn't know you had & talk about tears!

Welcome to the vine TWV. I can't answer you question but there are some threads below which may help. I don't think we have any American members (I may be mistaken) but you are welcome to have a look round.

It worked last night, I can only assume it's been moderated.

OP - I have no idea what variety you are looking for - the horseradish that grows on my allotment has huge sometimes 2 inch thick roots which are a good foot long at times. Have you tried online searching for horseradish varieties and trying to see if they match your description?

Probably the best thing to do would be to find out if it is still growing in that area or on that farm. A long way I know, but do you have any family still living up there that could dig you up a root and send it to you?

Hello TWV and a very warm welcome to the Vine. I've never grown horseradish, it's a bit hot for me. Hope you find what you're looking for.

I wonder if it was because I was linking the search facility, I did check it though before I posted so apologies.
