  • greetings!!

Hello all! Thought Id introduce myself coz I expect I will be here alot as my previous gardening experience is killing several houseplant, including a spider plant!!
Ive recently regained control of my garden which I just ignored for about 10 years til it was basically just an enormous pyracantha. Im now trying something different, namely growing my own food!
I blame a mid life epiphany as it occurred to me the reason Ive never been on a successful diet in my life is that like alot of us I have no relationship with the food I eat. I would happily just shovel anything in without any thought at all. I started home cooking seriously this year and have already lost nearly 2st so Im hoping that producing my own fruit and veg will make me even healthier and happier.

I dont have a lot to work with...just a small garden (10ft x 10ft patio and 10ft x 10ft dirt patch), plus a concrete alley. However I do have plans! 4 raised beds are already in postion and a couple of compost bins will be delivered soon. I am hoping to train cordon/espalier fruit trees along the fences with informal herb beds bordering underneath then something tasty in my beds! Also plenty of room on the patio for containers!
    Wish me luck!!

Wow - sounds like you are doing well on the cooking and eating front! And just think you will save a fortune on the fresh fruit and veg as well as getting loads of exercise!
    And welcome to the vine!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Wow, I am yet to build my raised beds (I have dug the area but yet to build the raised beds!) Home grown veg tastes 10 times better than the supermarket!

Hi Kentishgal, nice to have you on board!
The other benefit you will get from you garden is exercise, which will also help with the weight/health stuff. Good luck and welcome!

Welcome aboard, congratulations on the successful weight loss and GOOD LUCK!

In the past I've planted flowers and other stuff that's supposed to live and grow, then barely noticed it shrivelling up and dying in my peripheral vision, but now that I'm growing things to eat.........checking in on them twice a day, every day!
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

Welcome to the vine! I managed to kill a cactus, so know how you felt back then

I grow for the exact same reason... I love food/cooking so naturally want to use the best possible ingredients.
