HI Guys, first day on here - so please forgive me if i've posted this in the wrong place! - I couldn't find another place to write a new post of my own, but it's relevant honest What do you do if you are on a waiting list (number 36) and people have been on it since 2009 and are still waiting, but here's the rub, there are at least 20 plots that are empty or that have been so neglected they look more like fields, or the council has taken the topsoil and left them and they look like wildernesses? Man I spoke to said, be patient and was very nice, but I know these plots are there with some other allotmenteers putting their overspill onto them (can't really blame them) also a private enterprise has been given 12 plots! It's a big site, and some people have been there years and taken over generations of allotments it's just appalling that nobody seems to be bothered about giving these empty plots to anyone on the list. I suspect some kind of weirdness is going on but am clueless as to what it could possibly be! Why not give the empty plots to people? Why hold onto them? Am Baffled!

Find out if there is a site representative for the allotments (there usually is) and have a word with him/her. Council employees aren't usually too concerned about whether the allotments are fully let or cared for. It's probably not even his full time job, just another piece of work he's been given.

Welcome from me too, I don't understand how they turn away income. I too am baffled. Good luck and hope you get one soon.

There is no allotment commitee, council man; it's his proper job, he runs all of the allotments in the town. This weekend an allotmenteer decided he wanted an empty plot and just took it! My friend who has an allotment on the site asked him what he was doing, and he said, well, nobody is using it! My friend pointed out that he already has 2 plots and he can't just take another as there are people waiting on a list, and he just took no notice and carried on. Said he was going to give his other plots to family members!! Oh, i'm so fed up of being the only one playing by the rules Think I might just go down, find an empty plot and become a squatter - not really though - sigh But hey, at least the weather is nice today Sorry for being so downhearted everyone! You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

OK Ancee, get onto your council man and tell him what is happening. If it's his full time job then he is accountable to the Council for income and expenditure, and should also be keeping a proper waiting list. Ask your local councillor to raise questions at the next Council meeting and stir things up a bit.
