  • Newb, from Nornirn, WTH am I gonna do about those Leylandii? ;)

    Hey Folks,
Just moving into a fixer upper that's been vacant for 2 1/2 yrs and trying to get up to speed on the place. Got big fat trees to manage and in violently clearing the overgrowth have uncovered loads of interesting stuff like Rhubarb (eugh), gooseberries, rasberries, garlic (mmmmm), mint and loads of stuff I just haven't identified yet!! Trees include: Leylandii, about 10 or 15, two oak, a sycamore, chestnut, cherry, more unidentified
My gardening experience is zilch so expect loads of newb questions as I really need to decide what can be restored and rescued and what should be taken away and how.

Welcome. How big is the garden? I'd get rid of the Leylandi for starters.

Post some pictures when you get a chance.

Hello Smeo and welcome to the vine I'm sure if you made a thread with photos of your unidentified plants, bushes and trees grapes will try to help to identify them for you.

Hello, and welcome to the Madhouse!

                Leylandii? Chainsaw!
Sycamore? Ditto, but you'll still be removing the bl**dy seedlings and saplings for a couple of years afterwards!

                Leave the rest!

Hello Smeo and welcome. Can you tell that Leylandii are not our favourite trees?

Welcome to the vine. As for the leylandii - how big are they? You can keep them small if they are trimmed from a young age - otherwise they resent a big trim, which is why large ones have to be got rid of.
