  • An old Pillchard introducing himself

    Hi All,
First time on here thought I'd just pop up and say hi, I think Ive gone raving mad have in the last week bought a Kiwi plant, a boysenberry, a black butte blackberry, and I'm sitting here waiting for a wineberry plant to be delivered, dont know anything about any of them only what I have read on the internet, but thats me go and buy shove them in the garden with farmyard manure and well rotted horse poop, I only grow in my garden have just given up an allotment to much for an old geezer like me, I have enough to do in the garden without having an allotment as well, there are four plum trees two pears trees gooseberrys, black currents, red currents, raspberrys, Honeyberrys, blueberrys, Grapes, My other interest are shooting, fishing, and Falconry.

Welcome Widd. Is that short for anything? I'm thinking west country connections because of the pilchard reference. Just humour me, I have Devonian roots.

You sound as if you have enough to be getting on with without an alloment. Piccies are always appreciated here, we'd love to see how you are getting on.
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

Welcome Widd. If I had to choose between growing fruit or veg, it would be fruit. Once you have the bushes/trees they are so little trouble, they mostly just get on with life with little interference.
One word of warning about the Kiwi though. It needs a lot of room. I put my little "Jenny" kiwi to grow up an archway, next to the house. The tendrils now slap at the 1st floor bedroom windows. It is a thug, so control it from the outset.

Hello from another newb and fruit fancier. My kiwi has been in for about 6 weeks now and has made 1.5m growth. But its being out-sprinted by the vine on the next but one post...

              Hello and welcome Widd!

Everyone has been very polite and sensible so far, but be warned, we have a daft side too!

              Enjoy the fruit!

Welcome to the vine widd. There is an excellent section dedicated to fruit growing so have a look or if you need any advice, post your questions there........By the way, when you go fishing for pilchards, do they come in tomato sauce..........

If it comes from a plant, eat it. If it was made in a plant, don't!!
