  • Hello from Aberdeen

Hello! Just arrived in this space and finding my way around. My wife and I retired a couple of years ago and took over an allotment at Garthdee Field here in Aberdeen. Our first year was reasonably successful, but last season was pretty much a disaster. We seem to be struggling to grow our green fingers - or much else. So, we have decided to put our backs into some research for the coming season and this looked like a great place to get advice and pick up ideas about where we are going wrong.

Sounds like the whole country has been going wrong - wrong weather for a start

Welcome, and I'm just getting into the growing season here, so I will be head down and full of plans for plants from now on. Good luck with the research.

Hello and welcome from me too.

You will learn a huge amount from the fantastic folks on here, I certainly have.

Only some of which I rather wish I hadn't.

Hello PP, and thanks for the welcome. Jacqui and I cycled over the Pyrenees early October, St Jean Pied de Port to Pamplona - were we anywhere near you?

Hello and a very warm welcome to the Vine. As I'm sure you've gathered, we've all had a pretty torrid time of it this year, but bring on the Spring!

Hi there, I have a plot at Hilton, about halfway down the hill between Northfield and the Don. I've had my plot 4 years and this has been the poorest ever. Just the wrong weather, we'll all have to hang on in there and hope for a better summer next year.

Greetings from frosty Lumphanan, muncher ! As everyone is saying, regardless of time served, gardeners everywhere have had a terrible growing year. Highest temperature in Aberdeenshire this year was in Aboyne...in March !
If research is your objective, well it doesn't get more fun or informative than the Vine. But you may find every so often the conversation suddenly takes a left turn at Reality and heads off into Whoknowswhere...
