  • Lifted the last of the potatoes today and spend a pleasant hour or so in the sunshine wandering round the site with Jim and Linda to get some hints on how other plot holder's crops were progressing. Noted some lovely asparagus and some peppers plus a variety of wild flowers - think I'll grow some next year round the borders of the plot/s.

Took a pic of a dahlia I planted in the Spring - thought I had cut it down when I weeded earler in the year but it has come good.

When I put some of last year's straw in the compost bin I noticed that once the top few inches had been removed the lot underneath had rotted down to a lovely black colour - it had been put in the builder's bag wet in the Spring, after covering the plot during the winter, so it has taken less than a year to rot down with being mixed with anything else. - Note for next Spring as I have another 2 bales in builder's bags ready for use.

    • Spent 3 hours on the allotment today getting last year's potato and pea beds ready for next year.

A look down the beach revealed a distinct lack of seaweed - looks as if the beach has been tidied by tractor.

      • Dug in the manure on next year's potato bed and used allotment petrol strimmer to strim round plot edges which had been left untouched by battery strimmer.

          • Thank you - soil on this bed had plenty of compost dug in last year after clearing over the winter and produced a good crop of small garlic (overwintered), onions, carrots and beetroot, so I am hopeful that the potatoes will be even better than this year's crop. :-)

            • Another 3 bags of seaweed onto my plot today followed by the start of reclamation of an area on my daughter's plot, currently used as a sitting area covered by wood chip - this will be used for overwintering onions.

Picked a 4 red cabbage, (and gave one each to Jim and Taffy), the last of the runners beans and dug up a row of potatoes

                • Only a couple of hours at the allotment today - put in 50-60 red onions and stopped for rain which got worse after I restarted, so only got about 20 white in before I gave up in disgust

                    • I lifted the last of the potatoes today and will get the strawberries removed to the kid's plot over the next few days and completely clear and dig over the half plot I borrowed, before I was allocated my own plot last November, and hand it back to its rightful owner.

                      • Spent two hours at the allotment today clearing the kid's bed/s most of which went into the compost heap. The environmesh and debris netting removed to go into the washing machine.

Still some weeding to do thereafter trandfer strawberries to kid's plot.

                        • Another 4 hours at the allotment today - overwintering onions and garlic planted in kid's bed and covered by environmesh - noticed that previously planted onions are coming through.

                            • I seem to detect a hint of criticism that my environmesh & debris netting might have been in such a dirty condition that it was unsuitable for the washing machine?

If so I'll have you know that prior to chucking it in the machine I spent many minutes brushing off much/most of the ingrained earth and removing the weeds/grass and moss adhering to it.

In my own defence I only had to spend 20 minutes clearing out the dirt from the washing machine after I hung it out on the line

In addition when I put it back on the onion/garlic bed today it had shrunk a bit and was not as even as it was before Next time I'll use a cool wash

Would the next wash not have cleaned it out, and what`s a cool wash?
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
