  • Greetings from Fife

    Hello all,

Greetings from our garden in Fife. We are enthusiastic vegetable growers, and this year (2012) have moved into a house with a decent garden at last. So I'm going all out to grow the best produce I can with the space available. I'm always interested to read and learn how other people do things, see if I can find any new shortcuts or tips.

I've been growing veg since the age of ten with my father, so I hope I've picked up a few good ideas from him over the years. I tend to prefer growing potatoes, peas, carrots and the like, simple and reliable crops that don't take lots of looking after. Tried the exotic stuff a few years back and it was a complete disaster!

Our garden in the old house two years ago looked like below, so hopefully I can do something similar this year. Looking forward to contributing!

Thank you very much for the warm welcome folks. Most appreciated. Yes I'm looking forward to the warmer weather as well, big plans for this year! So far I've settled on 12 varieties of potato, three leeks, two carrots, two parsnips, two sprouts, sutherland kale, tree cabbage, three peas, and whatever else I can squeeze into beds or pots.

Grew carrots & parsnips last year in the beds, and they were terrible. So this year I've built some proper carrot beds and filled them with sand, in an attempt to grow some half decent specimens.

Yes tall boxes for looong carrots and parsnips, shorter boxes for short carrots and parsnips. We shall see how they get on.
