    Welcome Naturenut Im new too.

Wow, sounds fantastic, have always fancied living your way. Tried to persuade OH to apply for a job on either Lewis or Harris a few years ago. He said it would be too cold/windy

Peppermint, thanks for the maps very helpful.

Wow, always loved the thought of those northern isles, but never got there when I was travelling.

We are on the other side of the world but we moved here to the snowy mountains (only cold spot in the continent ) about 8 yrs ago. Seems like yesterday, but we till love it. The kids loved growing up here, and even now, altho they sometimes bag it out as such a quiet little place.......none of them has made a move to get away from it!

I'm guessing you don't need to put any salt on your vege's since they'll be well salted with the sea breezes

Hello Scorpius and Feral007. We've been to Harris and Lewis and Mull, Skye on holidays just to compare them to Orkney but they don't measure up. Yep the wind can be a problem but you just get used to it, only notice when it isn't windy! I always believe you know your place when you find it and Feral007, you're there. Life is so different from further south and for the better, much more laid back and relaxed. We really envy the ones who can retire and enjoy all on offer without work getting in the way - lucky buggers Never mind, lifes a bitch and then you diet!!

Went to Orkney for a holiday a few years ago. Loved it, but by gods, the wind...

Hello and a very belated hello.

I've read the thread a few times and only just noticed I'm not on it. How rude
