  • Hello to all from beautiful Yorkshire!...

Hello to all, and greetings to you from Guiseley, West Yorkshire.

I'm just starting gardening again after 'dipping a toe in the water' last year, and have quite a few ambitious plans ('ambitious', that is, for me!) which I'm very keen to bring to fruition...

Last year's gardening was mainly a few tomatoes, a bag of potatoes, a few ill fated squashes (I really got them wrong) a few strawb plants and a lots of pretty flowers which were Ok, but which we couldn't eat (apart, that is, from dwarf sunflowers).

This Forum is really excellent, and a is a very friendly place. I'll certainly be around here very regularly from now on, and hope to make a few new friends into the bargain. This year I'll be growing lots of fruit and veg, mainly but not exclusively from the James Wong 'Homegrown Revolution' book, and am really quite excited - if a little nervous - as to how to sort everything out for the greatest success. I'd be really happy to compare notes with any other Forum members as we move on through the year.

One final thing, then; I've just noticed an ad that said 'Grow Your Own Magazine'. Now, I've always thought you had to buy your magazines from newsagents or supemarkets, so the idea that we can 'grow our own' is a truly astonishing revelation when I've gone through life assuming that magazines had to be produced on huge rollers at the printers...Just shows I've been away from gardening too long!

Hello again H&V and a proper welcome this time
Its very easy to Grow your own magazine but the seeds are quite expensive. Works out a few pounds a month - Oh and it doesn't taste very nice ...............

Hello again, Veggie Chicken, and thanks for the 'official welcome'...As I said elsewhere, this is a really excellent website, and a wonderful Forum. I'm silly amazed at how many people there are viewing it any given time. What an absolutely wonderful discovery this was for me today!

I'm sure we'll be bumping into each other with regularity now. Excuse my 'newbie ignorance' but are you a Moderator on here, or just a very keen and avid member? 16,496 posts - Wow! That's really some going! Will speak again very soon...Have a good rest of the day....

I don't eat meat but I do eat fish. Calling my self a Pesky-tarian just invites rude comments from this lot!!

                    Thanks for your welcome, too...

How on earth can any Yorkies bear to be outside the Broad Acres? You deserve some sort of medal for even contemplating it!

                            Hi Herbsandveg.

OH (KittyColdNose) is a Yorkie too.

I have totally corrupted her, as she now screams her lungs out in support of Scottish Rugby team, but in return she has introduced me to "proper" beer and gardening (I got the better deal really...)
Quanti canicula ille in fenestra ?
