Hi Darwin and welcome. This is a great place for information so I'm sure your'e going to enjoy it.
Would love to see some pics of your garden if you have any, it sounds as if you have plenty of growing space.
By the way, its good to see another Irish person getting involved. Good luck with the oak tree.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

We have our own little oak wood. My mum (who was a very keen gardener) planted the trees over twenty years ago. The acorns came from Surrey where I grew up. Now, here in Ireland my children have a treehouse in an oak tree grown from an acorn from an oak tree from our garden in Surrey which once had our swings hanging from it. Does that make sense?!

I'll take some pictures when I get the oak planted and I'll have a look for any I might have taken already, I'm making big changes every year so photos are outdated and don't look great.

An oak wood sounds absolutely perfect, If I ever won any money I'd buy a farm and plant the whole thing as a wood with only native species.

          welcome darwin
oaks arent my favourite tree at the moment ...they keep falling off the cliff behind the house....so far not onto our house but they have taken the electricity out three times this winter, demolished my neighbours front steps and knocked a hole in another neighbours house.

I can see why you're not a fan. I love them but rarely see many of them about.
