Mow, strim, most of it. And get some drainage ditches in. Hopefully the PC will help with some of that. Then cover in cardboard. Free is you ask nicely at the shops with large boxes - VC always recommends bike shope because apparently they come in large boxes.
I thought I'd try the bottle shop since alcohol seems to come in boxes as well. That's how I found that bottle shops aren't open at 8.30 in the morning - fancy that!
After the cardboard is down, you plant thru it. Or as I do, put some compost and hay on top and plant on top of it. But either way the cardboard does good things. Firstly, it suppressed a lot of weeds, kills even more. It keeps the ground moist (if it ever stops raining there) and the worms love it. You can put manure under the cardboard, but we didn't. Then when the cardboard breaks down it goes into the ground to add carbon. And you find that the earth underneath is lovely and soft! Its a win/win/
What everyone will tell you, is get it all covered. Get one section planted with something, anything. And you'll feel like you're on your way!
Jackie French an aussie gardener with a cheeky sense of humour, says to plant one tree/bush and you're away. So have a think about what you might like to do with it all. And then out of all the might's choose one thing you definately want, and get that one started. You'll feel so much more motivated every time you look at it.Ali

Some days it's hardly worth chewing through the restraints!
One bit of old folklore wisdom says to plant tomatoes when the soil is warm enough to sit on with bare buttocks. In surburban areas, use the back of your wrist. Jackie French
