    Hi,
Just wanted to say hello. My neighbour has offered me part of a field to convert into an allotment. Really excited but not sure where to start? Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction. I do realise I need to start digging. Any advice would be great.
    Thanks, Billiewhizkid

      Hello & welcome

Before you do anything to a photo from each compass point,do the same once a month & look at your progress over a year,it is a memory aid to what is planted where & also handy for weather reference

What is growing in the field at the moment ? Crop, grass, weeds annual/perennial ?

What would you like to grow & what do you like to eat ?

Hello Billie and welcome from me too. Start collecting cardboard boxes - the big ones from cycle shops (not shoe boxes!). Then you can lay it on top of the grass (strimmed ideally) to start killing it off without digging. When you're ready to plant, you can plant through the cardboard, which will gradually rot down.
Its a wonderful opportunity - Good luck

Hello Billie, welcome to the forum. My advice would be to draw up a plan of the layout you wish to have before you start digging. Good luck with it!

                  Welcome to the forum.

The search facility at the top of the page is really useful, and so is the advice from most members.
Lots of folks from round your way post on here, so local advice and info will be forthcoming.

As a few have said before me (and no doubt it will be said again) have a good look through the forum, there are so many helpful people and tips on here, I didn't know what to look at first.

I am sure if you have any questions, many people will be more than happy to help out.
