Adjusting Canuck

Hi there,

I am a Canadian living in the UK (for about five years now) who has dabbled with gardens here, but recently (six months ago) moved into our own house (opposed to renting) and are now picking up the pace.

We have a small cottage garden out front and this year will be spent identifying what is already planted in it. Our back garden we are currently re-landscaping (was previously flat, grass, dirt, and nothing else), but is home to our greenhouse, future veg plot, and flower beds. I am slowly adjusting to gardening in the UK (things grow all year, weather unpredictable, etc) and I'm glad that I've found a forum to help!

I grew up in the country and have gardened all my life (for consumption and decoration), but I feel sometimes as though I'm learning all over again! It is so nice to be able to get out into our back garden now and potter along. I planted out strawberries this weekend and I'm doing a test with rabbit manure (we have recently adopted rescue bunnies). I've heard wonderful things about it as a cold manure, so while I usually compost down all their hay/waste/paper I have begun sifting out some of their 'magic poops' to mix in with the soil. I gave it to three plants and planted three without it. I'll post some before and afters once they've grown on a bit to see if it holds any water.
