Hi I'm new to the gardening scene. Im 25 and from Ireland. My gardens front and back are both concreted so I bought a 6x3 flimsy greenhouse haha first lesson learnt tie it down haha. I've got a few strawberry plants and a raspberry plant in a bucket. I lost most of my seeds that i planted when greenhouse blew over so basically starting from scratch so would like any advice on what seeds would be best for a novice like me to plant this time of year. I'm also going to invest in a raised flower bed and I've seen a few that I'm thinking of getting in around £ 40-50 pound range and intend to cover them as slugs in Ireland are dynamite. Was thinking putting this compost in it Gardman Peat Free Compost 60ltr: Amazon.co.uk: Garden & Outdoors
And I think I could acquire a bit of horse droppings and mixing this in with it. Any advice welcome because to be honest I haven't a clue but can't wait to learn

Hi Gingeroots and welcome. On here those lightweight greenhouses are known as "Blowaways" - you know why!! The best things to grow are those you like eating! I know its obvious but there's no point in growing something easy when it tastes foul! So think about what you enjoy and we'll tell you how easy it is

I eat anything lol, what depth would my raised flower bed need to be? is 15cm sufficient for growing the likes of carrots?

Hi Gingerroots.

We are also fairly new to gardening, this being our second season. You do pick stuff up quickly, especially with the sort of advice on here.

If you are gonna grow carrots, remember they like fairly poor soil, so adding horse poo means they will fork. We made that mistake last year with some humorous results

This year we went for some big tubs around 35cm deep for the carrots, after advice from others on here.

Im a newbie to. Just started gardening as i moved into a new place with a good size garden. Been wanting to get stuck in for ages.

Just commenting on the fact you say slugs are like dynamite. I have just the ticket. I own a coffee shop and have been getting people asking me for my disused coffee grounds as they are amazing for keeping away slugs!

However, i did some research and it turns out the EU have a law against it because its not a test pesticide. PHA more like they have put a law against it because they cannot make money out of it as its FREE!! Anyway, you will never get caught as you can just say its compost! HA.

But it its amazing stuff!! just ask your local barista for some :-)

I like the tip about coffee grounds JennyJen. I put this in my compost usually. Does it matter if it's mixed in with the compost or does it need to be put on the top of the soil?
