New from Notts

Hi my names Hayley from Notts. Earlier in the year my partner and I decided to plant a sunflower each from our parrots food to see whos would grow the tallest (sad i know). This seemed to start the bug and i was soon assembling a small 4 tier greenhouse from the shed. I found a tin of old seeds and i was away.

I now have 2 x 4 shelf greenhouses one containing tomatoes and peppers the other containing trays of all sorts of veg seeds including peas, runner beans, sweetcorn and lettuce. Countless amount of pots, window boxes & hanging baskets containing strawberry plants and 2 small beds containing broad beans, cabbage and lettuce so far.

You could say i'm well and truly hooked, i've even found myself buying or sowing plants of veg i dont even like! I think i need help....

Yes, there's many grapes on here that suffer with the same problem!

The only veg i eat regually is baked beans and tinned peas I'm hoping if i grow my own it will tempt me to eat more healthy. I LOVE strawberries, blackberries and raspberrys but there so expensive and seem to go off within a day of buying them so i have planted a few bushes and countless amount of strawberries yum yum.

I enjoy a good stew so perhaps i should try planting things for that?

You could always try some spuds in growing bags if you are not sure what else to plant. There is a great pride in producing the Christmas dinner veg and being able to say 'I did that...'

You may well find that when you eat the freshly grown and picked stuff you probably will like it. My stew stuff is leeks, celery. garlic, parsnips and pumpkins. I'd add carrots and onions but they both hate me, or my soil or both.
