I'm sure it has - I shall have to pop in and have a look when I'm next in Milton. My sister seems to go there a lot since it reopened.

When I lived in Milton my watering hole of choice was the White Horse, where my Mum worked for 30 years! I don't really care for it now as it looks kinda run down, and all the people I used to go are no longer there.

Jolly Brewers is owned by a syndicate of 7 or 8 people now ... so hopefully it will do well ....

The problem with pubs in Milton, is that there are 4 within a stone throw away, and competition is fierce

the other problem, is that if one or 2 people dont get on with the landlord or landlady, they dont go to the pub again, and neither do their friends (people in Milton are very 'clicky' and they hang around in crowds

that was one of the reasons that the Brewers pub shut .... some people never saw eye to eye with the landlady, and they struggled to get patrons soon after .... the food was very good there, and portions were huge, but they still folded

Lion and Lamb is ok, and the landlord and landlady also own a pub in waterbeach now .... they have been running the Lion and Lamb for a few years now

I have not been to the White horse for ages and should make a turn there sometime

You're right in what you say, but in days of old there were customers aplenty for all four of them, though the Wagon and Horses was always a bit strange. It always felt like the kinda pub you get outside a railway station, to me.

I know of the "problems" the 'Brewers had previously (the last landlady, in particular, was certainly not the easiest of people to get on with) and that it is now owned by a syndicate.

The flagging trade in Milton's pubs is a reflection of the wider downturn in the pub trade in general, and the major cause of the majority of them being turned into eating houses. Soon there won't be any proper "pubs" left.

Of all the pubs in Milton, the Lion & Lamb was always my least favourite. I felt the clientele to be the most "cliquey" of the lot. It was always the one we would visit first on the obligatory Christmas/New Years Eve pub crawls!!

I think what has affected pubs hugely, is the no smoking policy ....

most of my mates smoke, and a fag goes hand in hand with a pint ....

it's fine during summer, as you can sit in the garden ..... come winter, then it's a completely different situation if you are a smoker, so pubs suffer

pubs dont make much profit per pint, so food is where the profit lies .... I'm originally from South Africa, and many pubs have a different marketing concept ....

they have bar snacks from 6pm till 7pm .... but I'm talking about proper bar snacks such as pizza slices, chicken wings, samosas etc and enough to fill you ..... many people (especially single people) go there and pig out on the snacks, and then spend their food money on an extra few pints

Here in the UK, you are very lucky if you get a dry roasted peanut in a pub for free
