  • american who loves uk gardening

Delighted to be on this forum. My husband and I garden in western New York State in the US. We visited the UK in 2007, enjoying western Scotland with a cousin and then touring Cornwall and the fabulous gardens. I am quite taken with the "gardening culture" in the UK. We live on a 100 acre farm and garden about 4 acres including ornamental gardens (mostly shade), veggies (which we call our "allotment") and fruit including pears, apples, mulberries, raspberries and blueberries. We live in a challenging location just east of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie, which brings us lots of wind and LOTS of snow. The concept of the winter garden here is 3 feet of snow.
I love Grow Your Own and look forward to it every month. I am looking forward to reading the advice of the other GYO readers.
BTW- I am just 2nd generation American. My father's family is British!

Welcome! To get the real feel of UK gardening you need slugs. Can anybody here on the Vine send this lady a few slugs to get started?

Hi there and welcome. Not sure how much help we can be to NY state but I'm sure we are all only too happy to help if we can.

Guess I don't need any slugs, thank you! We have plenty, esp. if our rain arrives today!
I sure hope we do not ever see the giant slugs I have seen pictured in the garden magazines. It seems I read they came over from Europe somewhere??? Looks like they could eat a hosta in one meal!
I have resorted to dropping them into a cup of salt.
                  Thanks for the offer though!!
