New Allotment

Had our small allotment for about 3 months. It was overgrown.

We have now nearly cleared one side. Picked out lots of stones and some glass. Putting down some beds.Covered the other with black plastic to try and kill the weeds. We may go for the 'no digging! on that side.
Moved the shed. Bought some fencing(reclaimed) to put around the allotment. it needs sanding and repainting, but the place looks better already.

Hubby and I off next week so will be spending some time there. I have my name down for a council allotment but that could take years to get one.

Only got a photo from when we got the allotment. Will add more after next week.

Found a shrub/plant there but dont know what it is. Any ideas?

Your mystery plant is St John's Wort or Hypericum perforatum. It springs up all over the place. Its not edible but has medicinal uses.

Thanks VeggieChicken, i wouldnt have eaten it anyway, doesn't look edible!!!! Not sure what to do with it!

I want to grow some fruits and different veg and herbs. The planning is the exhausting bit I think.

If the hypericum is in the wrong place get rid of it Once you've had one of them it will probably keep coming back. I find them all over the garden

Hi hope you enjoy your alotment. I would pull the shrub up asap, I have what looks the same shrub in my front garden and it spreads very easily.
