Hello All
I have been reading on here for a few months reading all your posts, so decided to join. Here's my story.
I have been growing herbs the last few years and decided this year to put our names down for a lottie. Lo and behold, we became the proud owners of our plot (if not somewhat overwhelmed by the mammoth task we had set ourselves!) 4 days later!!!
There started the last four months of hard work and determination (weekends and after work graft). We have been lucky enough to be based on a very friendly 100+ allotment site and even though we decided not to grow anything this year, we were inundated on our first day with a huge array of plants. Everyone at the allotment site has been fantastic, giving us growing-virgins some outstanding advise.
Now we have turned, weeded, dunged-up-to-the-eyeballs, rotivated, bordered and built a pond. My other half has sourced the raised bed wood and a quirky shed (£25 from Gumtree!!!!) and everything now need to be erected.
We have even plonked down a few seeds, despite saying we wouldn't, and have had a good harvest of radish, beetroot, spring onions and tomatoes. So at least we know that all through all this hard preparation of the plot we can at least grow something!!!
I have joined here hoping to learn a few tricks of the trade and increase my ever growing knowledge of not only growing your own but also what to do with some of it!
Here's hoping my 2014 will be a fruit-and-vegful one!!
