Complete noob waving like a loony!

Hi everyone!

I'm an absolute beyond beginner, just moved into a new flat with a MASSIVE south facing balcony and really excited to start learning and growing veg and fruit :-)

I inherited a load of pots with the balcony (empty but have some soil in and apparently a local cat likes to use them as a toilet grrrr)
Not sure whether the soil in there is any good for growing veg - there is a back of miracle grow moisture control stuff that looks like its the same stuff as in the pots with little yellow and blue beads in it.

Got a load of seeds and seed trays and some seeding compost, along with a couple of pots of some garlic plants.
Bit scared of starting getting stuff wrong and mucking it up!

Excitable, happy, bubbly and full of questions... That's kinda me and why I'm here :-D

Really excited to learn, but yeah I'm a bit of a perfectionist so don't like getting things wrong or failing haha.

What I've got to plant.... Courgette, little gem lettuce, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, swede, kohl rabi, Swiss chard, crystal apple, plum tomato, radish, broccoli, early sprouting purple broccoli, celeriac, rainbow beets, carrots, leek, purple garlic, white garlic, mint, oregano and basil.

The garlics are plants in pots, was goin to plant them out but not sure if I plant all the plants in a cluster or try n separate the plants out (there are 4 & 5 plants respectively in each little pot from the garden centre).
And ran into the oh wait this soil has coloured beads in it maybe its not ok for food plants issue.

Oh and re what I like to eat... Fruit and veg and meat are literally all I eat... Cook everything from scratch, some nuts and seeds.

But I DON'T eat any legumes (beans) and I don't like onions or mushrooms (yeah I know, I'm weird)

Yep - you're wierd, Kirstie Never disagree with anyone - that's my motto !!
Keep an eye out for posts by Potstubsdustbins aka Potty - he has growing veg in pots down to a fine art. Follow his advice and you won't go far wrong

Lucky you, that balcony is huge. We grow most of our stuff in pots and containers, had a really successful first year. This forum is a mine of really useful information. I would start again with the soil being as it's been a cats bathroom though

Right so stalk potty and do more than just scoop the top layer of soil out of the pots?

How do I dispose of soil? Ok to chuck it out in a bin bag?

Hehe I know! The balcony is about metres wide and 8ish meteres wide :-) was SO excited

Forgot I do have one more complication, I will need to keep little rascal aka roxy the rabbit out of anything he's likely to want to nibble lol
