Mr Tomato King is back!

After quite few years absence I am back on the Grapevine forum, after buying a copy of GYO and realised what I had been missing.

As some of you might remember I was a commercial tomato grower in the 70's and 80's so as well as getting advice on other crops for myself I also gave a little advice on tomato growing and other indoor crops. I found I was answering many of the same questions so decided to create a blog for Mr Tomato King, which incidentally was my nick name when growing tomatoes in Portugal.

I now live full time in Brittany so have a little more time for my blog and garden, both of which have been neglected while I was commuting between France and Guernsey for the past 5 years.

I am looking forward to a little banter between old and new friends, I hope you are all keeping well.

Welcome back TK, I am a relative newbie compared to you and will certainly be seeking your wisdom throughout the season. I have been plagued in particular by tomato moth caterpillars for two seasons now. Any thoughts on those?

Hi Bill, thanks for the welcome.
I am not as organic as I should be, blame it on the commercial background, so I do tend to use a chemical spray for caterpillars, I do find just one spray will hold them off for ages because once they get hold they even get inside the fruit and ruin your crop. You can also pick them off by hand as you see them again after treatment.

Of course a good disinfecting of the greenhouse at the end of the season will help with the onset of any pests and diseases. The problem it trying to have the greenhouse empty for a few days!
