Back after a loooong break!

Almost five years ago, I posted on these forums to say that I wouldn't be around much because I was taking over from my former team leader at work, and hoping that it would turn into a permanent promotion.

Well it did, and other things got busy in my life too, and my gardening suffered big time! I've had to give up my allotment, and I'm also out of the chicken-keeping game - my last two bantams finally died of old age and I've decided not to get any replacements.

My poor garden is a wreck (the Bramble From Hell has done its best to take over), but I'm determined to bring it back to life. It'll need a lot of hard work and a hefty infusion of cash, but this spring weather is really motivating me to get going again

Thanks - but I'm afraid I changed my avatar. Seemed a bit weird, now that I don't have any hens left.

I thought that this year I'll just grow some quick'n'easy stuff whilst I concentrate of beating the brambles - lettuce, French beans, a few herbs. I've done well with lettuce and spinach in my raised beds in the past, and they're a good return on the seed investment

Ours is just horrible - wicked backward-curving thorns that catch in clothes and flesh, and I swear I've never seen a single flower on it, never mind a blackberry. It exists only to spread its suckers across our garden! *grrr*

I daren't take "before" photos - it's just too intimidating. I don't even look at the whole thing at once - I just keep my head down and keep chopping away as best I can!
