Hi All,

Moved house not long ago and I finally have my own garden.

Myself and my girlfriend are keen on growing some veg and some wildlife gardening too.

This is the garden, it's split into two halves - we plan to keep it that way.


In the first half we'd like to make it a nice place for any visitors human or otherwise and in the back half we'd like to start growing our own fruit and veg.

I have a rough plan for the 'allotment' half.

Here is roughly what it is like now:

Also... I was very excited (Genuinely :-) ) to find my very first 'Daily Mail Spider' the infamous False Widow spider (Steatoda nobilis)

It looks nice and you have a nice plan. i would add a few fruit bushes between your fruit trees..other than that...i cant say anything else as i dont know what hou intend on growing where?

To be honest, I haven't gotten that far yet either since there is so much else to do first .

But my girlfriend has started off a fair few seedlings (courgettes and beetroot) and we have been given herbs to plant in our back garden. So the race is on

Also, I am open to suggestions since I am pretty new at this and all I have are books to go by really. Hopefully I will have the garden cleared back and trying to be realistic on timescales I plan to put in beds around early may.

I suppose I hope to plant spinach, lettuce, radishes, kale and dwarf french beans

Hi, yes, I tried to illustrate this by adding a shadow showing where the fence will roughly cast a shadow.

The garden is west facing.

Greenhouse-wise, I am guessing - I thought if I put that on the shadier side since we'll mostly be using it for germination, seedling, tomatoes and chili's?

You want your gh in full sun, otherwise things will struggle. Plants need light, lots of light. My own doesn't get good daylight until the end of March: up to then I can only grow green algae in it.
