Hi everyone, I have been a member for some time but not actually posted before - not sure why - I usually find answers to my queries by searching all the wealth of information here. Anyway, my apologies if this topic has come up before.... I have several water-butts in my garden and up till now have watered the veg/flowers using a hand-held hose from a pump in the water-butt (this saves using my metered mains water). But it is tedious and time-consuming so I have just laid out a soaker hose system which I thought would be the answer. It works fine if I use the mains tap (though this defeats the idea of 'free' water from the water-butts) but it doesn't work with the pump in the butt nor by gravity (the butts are not much higher than the raised veg beds). My question is, would it work with a more powerful pump? I'm not very technically minded but the pump I have is 260W. Would a 750W be too powerful? Has anyone else set up a soaker hose watering system from their water-butts? I should have asked this question before buying the soaker hose! I hope someone can help, thanks!

Before forking out for a new pump, I would be tempted to put bigger holes in the soaker hose.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

One thing I learned from a community garden in Berlin was that cable ties help regulate the pressure to keep it even along the hose. Slightly tighter and they close the hole at the butt-end (excuse my language ) and more of the water gets to the end.http://mudandgluts.com - growing fruit and veg in suburbia
