  • A newbie has arrived!

Hi, I live in inland(ish) Spain and have been trying to battle with the elements for nearly 5 years! I am getting there oh so very slowly. I love my kitchen garden, my dogs and my OH! My other interests are cooking what I grow, home crafts and baking. I am looking forwards to having a lovely time on this site.

Hello & welcome to the vine, I would imagine watering could pose problems.

Welcome to the Grapevine. Hope to hear more about your gardening experiences in Spain - it must be so different to "sunshiny" South Wales

                              lots of sun, no water

Good morning Bigmally - yes watering here is definitely a BIG problem. For one, this is the driest year for Alicante and Valencia for 150 years, no significant rainfall since last November. I use grey water from the bathroom for the main irrigation of my kitchen garden. Wash basin, shower, and washing machine water are used. This is all collected into a 1000 ltr storage cube behind the house. I then have another 2 cubes next to the garden which collect rain water (hahahaha!) or back-wash water from the swimming pool. If all else fails then I can top up from the mains. For you Noosner - the sun is a problem - just too hot for me to garden much after 10.30 in the morning for July, August and currently the beginning of September. Just yesterday it reached 49 degrees C in the full sun and a nice cool (not) 41 in the shade! I am however looking forwards to taking delivery of a worm farm either today or tomorrow.
