Hello, and welcome to the Madhouse!
I have only grown garlic a couple of times, and I had really good results. If it helps, both times the beds were in a sunny aspect, one sheltered, the other, windy. Both beds were very rich with organic matter.
Get some rotted chicken or horse poo, and experiment in tubs over winter, to see how you get on. Good luck! All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment

Hello Kev
My garlic is always a bit of hit and miss - its my fault for owning a dog that eats it. I go have to grow at least a few because I am sure my next door neighbour could be a vampire! Oh too much wine last light.
A friend once made garlic vodka - not recommended!.
