In what way not developing properly?
Do you mean they don't swell , or they don't split?

If it's the latter, they need a good cold snap when they are in the ground before they split.

Adding your location would help- if you live in Jersey then it'll be different advice compared to the Shetland Isles!!

I'm a garlic fan and I usually have good results with garlic..one of the easiest veggies to grow for me as I can stick them in and not touch them again
Make sure you buy a decent growing garlic bulb. The ones from the supermarkets will grow but you will have hit and miss results. Overwintering garlic (in my experience) produces a good size bulb. Plant now so that they can get their feet in the ground and a little top growth before Winter hits.
They are a load of garlic threads on here, crab a cuppa, get a comfy chair and have a read through.

I would love to know what problems you get with growing them though? Too small? Not splitting? Rust? Rot?......

Hello Big Kev and welcome. Re garlic, mine grows okay but never that big so I'll be watching this thread with interest. Pushed the boat out this year and brought decent seed garlic, also planted it earlier than normal (planted in last week instead of in December as I did last year). Dug some leaf mould into the soil too in case the clay is a problem. I do know that clay soil can be hard work for the likes of onion and garlic and other plants that have to bulb out. So we will see.
