Just realised I've been happily chattering away and posting photos of my new allotment but hadn't done a proper intro yet!
I'm Gill, 46yo, married to Neil and owned by three girls of the feline variety
We live in the market town of Alnwick and have been here for ten years now, after moving from Tyneside. I certainly couldn't move back to the urban life now as I love being surrounded by open countryside and wildlife.
I first started gardening when I was about 3 years old and my dad let me help him plant seeds and, later, gave me my own tiny patch in which I would grow Candytuft, Nasturtiums, Virginia Stock etc. Sentimental old fool that I am I still make space for these old favourites every year
At present we live in a first-floor flat so my gardening has been restricted to what pots and containers I had in the courtyard downstairs which I share with my other neighbours. None of them are bothered about gardening so I get to do what I want....they just comment on how pretty the various flowers are that I grow.
I always fancied getting an allotment but thought there was a waiting list of years and years but apparently not up here!!! I originally googled ''getting an allotment in Alnwick'' and it led me to the council site where I excitedly printed out an application form and sent it off...in July 2014. I heard nothing for months until I was told just last Monday, 16th, that there were plots up for grabs at the Ratten Row site which is just five minutes walk from where I live. I rang the council number that very same day and basically just kept pestering them until I got a call inviting me to meet the council guy on Friday I was given the key there and then and now I just cannot wait to get stuck in!!! I've also realised that I know zero-zilch about growing veg, having always just concentrated on flowers due to lack of space, but I'm really looking forward to learning in the coming seasons and years.
Neil is also very excited about this allotment too....which is VERY bizarre as he's never shown any interest in gardening in the past! 'm not going to complain though as it'll be nice to have a hobby in common....as long as he stays over his side and doesn't try to pinch more and more ground from me!

The chap who has the plot next to me spends the winter abroad so once I meet him no doubt I'll be having a few chats with him about what used to be grown where in my plot.
