Newbie, not too new in the garden.

Hi everyone,

I've recently discovered this site after having a bit of a struggle. I decided to join because everyone on here seems very supportive and helpful to eachother!

I'm a keen gardener, I have a HUGE garden which I sometimes struggle to keep up with and somewhere like this is great for tips and tricks!

My basic set up in my garden is made up on beds, topsoil and homemade compost (which I struggle with! I always end up buying the stuff )

If anyone has any suppliers of topsoil, compost and anything else let me know!

I think this forum is great. Lots of lovely peeps and lots of tips and tricks for everyone not just newbies. I have noticed a big difference in my garden already for the sake of months.

Where abouts in the world are you? It will help with peeps suggesting where you might get topsoil/ spent mushroom compost/ horsey poo etc. etc.

When you say HUGE - how HUGE are we talking? Kristen (grape) has a lovely blog worth checking out if you need to get to grips with huge areas/garden and he shows you how he has tackled all the different areas.

There's really no need to buy topsoil! Compost everything, use grass clippings to mulch which eventually rots down, stables give away free manure if you can pick it up.
Best keep your money for seeds

I had all my very poor topsoil (all 5cm of it) scraped off and lost when we had a house built and it has all been replaced with mulching with anything I can find! Buying was not an option

Welcome to the Vine, bwalker Any questions you have about making compost, you'll find loads of folk here that can tell you how it's done, what to use, when/if to turn and so on. There's lots of people here don't use anything but their own H/M compost on their plots.
