  • Hi from Perthshire

    Hi All,
I'm an absolute beginner to gardening and have a tiny garden but I've just erected an 8' X 6' greenhouse as I decided to try to be productive for a change.
I have 5 different tomato plants which I've grown from seed ( in a small plastic "greenhouse"), 12 strawberry plants (2 varieties) in pots in the garden which have cropped and 3 "Basket of Fire" chilli pepper plants and 2 Sweet Pepper plants, all grown from seed on a window sill, which are now showing signs of life. All are now in the greenhouse.
I've also taken some cuttings (well pullings really) from a shop bought Basil plant and I'm attempting to root them in water.
That is the extent of my greenhouse saga so far (well it's only been 5 days) and I look forward very much to learning lots and growing lots with the help of you knowledgable folks.

      Welcome Euphony

First the bad news, if youve only just planted the chillis and peppers then im afraid their not going to do a lot for you, they really need planting in january/february

But the good news is that you have discovered a hobby that will thrill and dissapoint and even lead to sleepless nights lol, enjoy the vine, its grrrreeeeaaaatttttttt as Tony used to say

Welcome, yes sounds like your a bit late but keep going nothing in gardening is impossible and given a mild autumn you may yet get rewarded with something. The greatest way to learn is through experience.

No, it's a musical term that is exactly the opposite of what I manage to produce (musically).😇

                            Thanks All

Thank you all for the kind welcome.
I probably didn't explain things very well in my initial post, but all of the plants except the Basil and Strawberries were planted from seed in Feb and started off on a window sill in the warmth of our kitchen, the tomato plants and peppers/chilli's were then put out into a cheap small (5'x3'x2') polythene type greenhouse, so they're all established now. All of the tomato plants are in flower, the sweet peppers have at least one bud on them and the "Basket of Fire" chilli's have couple of buds each, so I'm hoping that I get something somewhere before the end of the season.
