A flagpole, swings, tree house, shed decorated with old toys, fire-pit, genuine vintage gnomes, vast storage box of netting...oh yes, and quite a large area dedicated to veg, soft fruit and flowers for cutting.
We call it an 'allotment', but pedantically (is this a forum where pedants exist? ) it's not, it's a veg plot a sloping triangular piece of land behind a church that we bought a few years back. Previously had been a veg garden but not cultivated due to ill health. Happens to be next door to my daughters bungalow, which explains the grand kids swings/tree house...
We grow as organically as possible, - sounds a bit wishy-washy, but it's the slugs your honour, the slugs, hoping for advice to reduce them. Current plan involves penning a few chickens strategically. also have snails and a wonderful population of slow worms. In my ideal world, there would be enough slow worms to keep the slug population to a reasonable level. Also the occasional toad. Bird life mainly dominated by the resident jackdaws who strip the soft fruit given a chance. This explains the huge collection of netting....
Oh, perhaps I should brag a bit - won the best 3 potatoes (Picasso), longest runner bean and heaviest marrow in the village veg. competition. So proud - but all grown to eat not for competition really.
I'm hoping to find lots of good advice - my main problem is carrots, and there seems to be a thread dedicated to this, which is what attracted me in the first place.
Erm, that's it....
