Hi, My partner and I have just taken on an allotment (which is going to need a bit of work to get it into shape) and as novices will be trawling this forum for tips and probably asking lots of stupid questions. Please be gentle with us!
Hello Mrs & Mrs Convolvulus & welcome to the Jungle. Don't worry about asking questions, we all started off somewhere. I'm still starting............

Welcome to Convolvulus couple in sunny Brum! (Spelling your name caused havoc with my spellcheck...!!!)
You'll find mounds of info here to help on your new lottie. Post pics (I always put mine upside down or on the side, for no particular reason ...) it's great to see things progressing.
There's also no silly questions here. Everyone's diggin the same ground just in different places!!
Im in sunny east mids, so not too distant from yourselves ...
Enjoy the Vine!

Oh and before anyone else asks we do like to see photo's of everything to do with your growing spaces as we are all very nosy!
Thank you all for the kind welcomes.
Below are pictures of our (half) plot.
A bit overgrown and neglected but was apparently well cared for and run organically by the previous holder for about 8-9 years. Our half of the plot seems to be mostly soft fruit with the veggies on the other half.
We've already righted the blown over shed and secured it, cleared most of the inorganic rubbish and burnt a lot of the organic waste.
A big couple of days ahead culling some of the raspberries and red currants, reinstating and digging over the beds, putting in a cold frame and sorting out the paths.
Then comes the hard bit - working out what to plant, where and when? Expect lots of dim questions!
Hi Convolvulus and welcome.
You get extra brownie points for posting your photos up the right way. Not everyone can manage that
Look forward to watching your progress. Any questions, no matter how silly they seem, will be answered as best we can - sometimes with sensible answers
Thanks - just went for the most annoying thing in the garden I could think of but "Bindweed" which would have been a lot simpler was already taken!
Hi there
mine was as bad as that last year i put roundup on 2 to 3 weeks later got stuck in dug it hand weeded got 12 bags of bindweed out including all other weeds .
Had a good growing season in 2015 after taking over the plot in October 2014
Its hard work but that roundup took 30% of the work out.
I have done 2 plot in the 2 previous years without roundup and i REALLY REALLY struggled
roundup was a winner for me this will not appeal to many on here ,but i prefer to go the easy rout if it saves struggling thats not nessesary and i am still here
and welcome to the vine and good luck with the lottie
