  • Hello from North Devon

    Hi all,

I've lurked here on and off for some time - some may recognise my moniker from a rival forum (cough) from which I've parted company (cough cough).

I've got a plot on a very windy site a mile or so from the North Coast of Devon. Been allotmenteering for about 3 years and like to try out some of the slightly more outlandish things you can get from the likes of Real Seeds. Sweetcorn seems to be my major success year on year. Can't grow melon, aubergine etc. - essentially any of the difficult things. but pretty good with the standards.
I'm on the plot committee - I'm the 'go to guy' when the communal shed needs a lick of paint and sometimes people listen to me when I talk about onions.
Family have no interest in the allotment and I work away a lot - so one of my main issues is with weed control - there's more suppressant on my plot than is the norm I guess. This year I'm growing strawberries and some of my onions through holes in weed suppressant - I suspect that will be the way forward for me.

Anyhow, enough rambling on, looking forward to getting to know this site a little better...

    Pip pip,

Hi, welcome to the vine. I used to garden at the Coastguard Station in Ilfracombe and it can't get much windier than that!

                    Hello Balders *waves*

Don't knock the challenges with 'standard' veg. I may have no probs with aubergines but my biggest goal is one day to grow parsnips of any size/forkability. Even one would be nice.

                    PS coughs.
