  • Hi from Belfast

I'm Polly and I pretend to grow stuff deliberately in a small garden in Belfast, but most of it happens by itself.

I have virtually no success with veg apart from lettuce, spuds, rocket and the occasional bean, but this year I'm trying onions. I moved the rhubarb this year and it's sulking, but I hope it will forgive me by next. I do much better with fruit that thrives on neglect like plums, redcurrants, blackcurrants and raspberries. I'm trying to teach the birds how to share and not to just gorb an entire bush of redcurrants while I'm still hunting for the nets.

I have mixed success with tomatoes every year and none with cucumbers so I've given up pretending that the greenhouse is anything other than another shed with better light than most and a ratty looking tomato plant in the corner.

The front garden is just a mad mixture of whatever I like and some stuff that I swear I didn't put there.

    Hello Polly

Welcome to the Vine and it is brilliant that you have joined us. Your attitude towards growing stuff is quite common on here. I am proud to share it myself.

You will get loads of advice if you want some about everything from the sublime to the down right daft.

I hope you enjoy becoming a Grape!

Hello Polly, welcome to the vine.

Today, here the south of England, a cold drab morning has suddenly erupted into glorious sunshine! This explains why you haven't yet been inundated by friendly welcomes....we've all been out sowing and planting or covering up ready for tonights predicted frost!

Your greenhouse sounds a lot like mine...although my one the door is missing and the window is stuck open...its more of a wind tunnel than a greenhouse but I love it anyway!
