THANK_YOU all for a wonderful website. i found you by change, as i tried to find information on vegetable growing. My first time this year! I have broad beans, peas, courgettes in the conservatory-not sure when to put outside, as it still seems chilly to me. I also have potatoes -two lots in a bucket , and some in the ground. Also garlic, carrots, runner beans spring onions, and radish-which the slugs have eaten. I didn't notice the name of the potatoes--but I had wonderful advice from Dundry nursery- Cheltenham-which have a fabulous collection of seed potatoes- I wish I had started years ago! I think the potatoes are earlies-but I am not sure when they will be ready to eat? I am also unsure of how many plants to grow-everything is grown from seed-but how many planyt do I need for a good crop?Also, am I too late to continue growing seeds in the conservatory and planting out? or will the time between now and winter be too short for them to grow and harvest?
This website s a wonderful find-and thank-you all for the wonderful help and advice-I am reading through all the blogs and enjoying myself.

I'm so pleased you enjoy the forum as much as we do and I hope you will be a regular.
There's still loads of time for sowing seeds, so keep at it
As for how many plants you need, it really depends on how many of each vegetable you eat and how much space you can spare for growing it.
We are an unbelievably nosey bunch here, so any photo's of your growing area will be much appreciated

When estimating the number of plants think;
One for the aphids,
Two for the birds,
And often the weather takes three,
four for the slugs
And five other bugs
To each one I planted for me

I hope it won't be that bad for you but since seeds cost so little I would much rather sow far too many than end up with nothing!
Spares can always be given away or donated to local jumble sales/charity shops so they'll never actually be wasted!
