We have been here just 30 years although our first house was in Mexborough in 1966. When we came here we took an Agricultural Tenancy of 15 acres hewn out of woodland.for 15 years we had outdoor pigs - 13 sows and a boar - Angora goats and bought a pair of weaned calves and reared them to finishing and then bought two more. We enjoyed that very much but regulations and the general problems of being in an urban area got us down in the end. We gave up the bulk of the land and just retained 'the yard' of 1.25 acres. There are 19 top fruit trees, various bush and cane fruits and vegetables. This covers about a third of the area and the rest is a battleground with brambles, bracken, nettles, sticky buds, etc. We didn't do anything much with the garden until we finished with the animals but we have done a lot since.
