If so then only let one pumpkin develop per plant and nipp off any additional fruit once the first has set and s growing well. If you're not after big fruit then next year you may want to look at smaller fruited varieties with better flavour and easier to store and cook.

Sounds like you've got a nice plot going - and a great attitude to growing it. Does "Pea & Ham" not get miffed that her sisters have all the cool names?

Hahaha yes, im after massive fruit. not fussed about flavour etc. I have 7 (great) nieces and nephews, and im hoping they all get a huge pumpkin to carve for Halloween. Its my favourite holiday :-)

But whatever I get, will be getting carved out and set round my garden, all bright and eerie :-)

Right now, Pea & Ham are both a year older than the other three, and are less fussed about names, than they are about these 3 annoying weans that have infiltrated their coop, and stealing all their food lol.

Now you've gone and said those two magic words to make use friends for live..................chickens and chilli's
Your girls look lovely. What chilli's you growing?
I'm growing Atlantic giant as well ( well trying to ) my excuse is I live in the frozen north and it's been a cr@ppy summer. I'm sticking to those excuses to
Honestly, I have no idea what chillies im growing lol. I do know im getting some ghost pepper and Trinidad scorpion seeds, to try for next year. I do like a bit of terrifying heat in my food lol

Im across in Renfrew, so pretty much same weather conditions, trying to grow the same stuff. Will be interesting to compare crops later, to see if theres any difference in results :-)

Following on from my original post, heres some more pics of the little greenery I have.

Apart from the Cherry tree, which came like it is, and the corn, pumpkins and carrots (which are hiding in the tunnel) everything that's growing is technically a "rescue".

all of it looked pretty much dead, and was bought on a whim as I wandered through various stores (B&Q, B&M, Aldi, Lidl, Tesco) so regardless of the fact I don't know what any of the flowers are, nor the varieties of most of the edibles, at least they all got a chance at a good life :-D

Which ties in with everything else, cos my dogs chickens and snake are all rescues too.
(You may notice a theme here :-))
