Thought I would post in here and say hello
Well, my time has come. 30 years old, homeowner for 3 months, a passion for good food and cooking, finally, my own garden!
I have been lucky that I have a mother who loves to cook. While all my friends were out playing football, I was baking. Then I was cooking dinner. Then some years later, I started asking where my food comes from. For at least the last 5 years, I have always been striving to get the best quality ingredients. Whether its meat from the butchers, or fruit and veg from my local grocer.
We used to grow some veg, not much, the usual tomatoes and potatoes. More recently I have grown beans, peas, peppers, courgettes and butternut squash.
Now I have my own garden, and the dream has always been to grow a very good amount of vegetable to provide my family. Just myself and the Mrs currently, but little ones not far off I suspect ;-). I love the idea of teaching my children how to provide food for themselves, and how to cook it. That, at least to me, is a life skill.
In the 3 months I have been here, I have put up an 8x10ft greenhouse, and 14ft shed (will be a brewery/bar), and this weekend I built 3 raised beds. Lucky I have some garden to spare, as one of the beds is 14x5! I have another 8x5, and one 12x7. All 18 inches deep - now just to fill with soil (uh oh...£££).
My current plan is quadgrows in the greenhouse with aubergine, chilli, pepper and tomatoes. Then raised beds will be everything else!
I have learn't so much from this forum over last couple of years, now I have my own vegetables to ask about. I look forward to getting to know some of you as I (properly) begin my journey.
Cheers!
