Hi Everyone,
We took over our new allotment a week ago and we're, well I'm, really excited. My husband is helping me out but it's definitely more my baby. My youngest is really involved too.
This is the second time around for us as allomenteers. The first time the kids were all really young and we had a large back garden to look after too. It was too much work and we had to give it up.
I've had dreams of growing my own veg ever since and have dabbled with yearly tomatoes, herbs and salad leaves but have yearned for more space to grow more veg.
After moving in to our new house a couple of years ago which has a lot smaller garden and the kids getting older and not needing us as much, we now have more time on our hands. We both work full time but we enjoy eating healthily and like keeping fit (trying), this seems a way to both.
So far we have cleared a patch of earth, cut down the big weeds, covered some areas with black plastic and wheelbarrowed 72 bags of woodchip down the hill to our allotment today!
Can't wait for spring!
