Hi fellows of the soil. I have moved back to the UK into a house with a 30 x 10 metre garden. The garden was all lawn with a 20 metre Christmas tree. The tree was removed and half of the lawn. I wanted more but the wife intervened. My half has 5off 21" x 6' x 4' raised beds for a 5 year rotation. The rest will be a vineyard with the vines arriving next month (I am an amature winemaker). Broad beans are flowering and my onions have taken off. I have one of these little plastic seed 'greenhouses' which was full of seedlings but was blown over by last nights wind. When the rain stops I will check it out.

This looks like a really good forum and as a new grower, I look forward to absorbing veg growing knowledge from the more experienced members.

Had to chuck away most of the tomato, pepper and lettuce seedlings as they were all mixed up. I did manage to save all my Lupins, perpetual spinach, rocket and some of the little gem lettuce. The plastic 'blowaway' now has plenty of weight on the bottom shelf and only a hurricane will move it now.

I've mentioned this before in other threads but can't rememberwhich ones so I type it out again.

My first blowawa I hammered stakes in the corners and middle and secured the verticals to these.

Before constructing the frame I wrapped each of the connections with sos pipe repair tape to reinforce the plastic.

Once the frame was up and taped to the stakes I tied paracord from the top corner of each side to the opposite bottom corner of the same side. This helped brace the frame against the wind.

When the cover was put on I buried the bottom edge in a trench, filled it in, put bricks on it and then pots and planters on the bricks.

When I had my seed trays in there I noticed that when it got windy the side of the cover would flap and risked a launch of the seed trays across the greenhouse.

To counter this I installed kinetic dampening and absorbsion rods - I tied garden canes vertically to the frame at the back of the staging to stop the cover hitting the trays.

This blowawa is still up and I haven't had that plot for 2 years.

I wasn't so rigorous on the next two and made the mistake of erecting one with its door to the wind. The cover didn't last and blew off a couple of times. Both lasted the season though.
