  • Another newbie from oxfordshire

Hi, I have grown veg before in my garden. have not grown anything for a few years (due to getting a family dog that thought green tomatoes where ready for eating and getting diagnosed with MS) want to get back into it as no longer able to work and getting bored not being able to do much.
looking at getting some raised beds in my garden so I can mix some herbs with flowers if that is possible. Have read some where that you can grow garlic with roses something to do with the bugs not liking the smell
also wanting to start growing herbs as use a lot of them in cooking so will save some money
I have a blackberry and raspberry in pots (not doing very well) that I want to put in the garden to train them to grow along the fence. not sure if that is at all possible, would it be safe to move them now as they are in pots

Hi Dragon and welcome to the vine.

As they've been in pots the fruit should be fine to plant out although you won't get much fruit this year they should get their geet down and start spreading for next year.. Mix in some compost and Blood Fish and Bone into the planting hole when you plant them out. There's a little bit on companion planting here.

Have a good look about and settle in with a cuppa. Remember that we are a nosey bunch and like to look at pikkies - which also have the secondary purpose of recording your progress.

Hello Dragon & welcome to the Jungle, I would think you are ok to transplant your potted fruit as there will be minimum root disturbance.

Hi Dragon and welcome from one of the Welsh dragons
Herbs with flowers is perfectly possible and a lovely idea. What herbs do you like to use and we'll do our best to help you grow them

Hello Dragon and as the others have said...............Welcome to the Vine.

I have both raspberries and blackberries in containers but they are specifically bred to be compact plants (Ruby Beauty and Black Cascade?) as we don't have the space for the mahoosive ones (teeny weeny garden).

I also use recycled plastic raised beds as they are easier to get at.

How about carrots, spring onions etc in pots?
