Hi from Glasgow

Hi all,

I'm complete beginner up in Glasgow starting out with a few things a the bottom of the back garden and trying to take our 3 year old along with me. Currently that means making sure that he doesn't dig anything up and hoping that the carrots he's excited about appear eventually.

Have already spent a fair bit of time lurking and picking up some hints and tips on here but thought I'd join in rather than do too much more.

Just hoping the summer reappears before too long so things have a chance to grow.

Hi Mat, try and find some small sweet pea seeds like kelvedon wonder, being on the west side where you're a bit wetter(though maybe not today), they are resistant to mildew.

Think I will try to pick up some dwarf pea seeds (out of space to grow anything too tall without blocking something else).

Not sure if you're quite as wet as we are even today Burnie, but at least the rain here is vertical.

I've got two courgettes planted out and another to follow once hardened off along with four pumpkins (three seem to be doing well but one is struggling from a mix of slug and wind damage). The other things that are underway are broad beans, radishes (managed to pick the first few this week), beetroot, strawberries and carrots. Though only seen 4 carrots emerge from the first sowing of about 50 three weeks ago and now the soil looks very compact, think its a patch the cats or foxes cross as a couple of the broad beans were snapped recently too, so was planning on cutting some drainage holes in the base of a deep flexitub and sowing the rest in there.

I have the same problem with the GC when they pick unripe strawberries, hair thin carrots and all of my Lavender.
