I'm brand new to all things allotment.
Im looking into purchasing an allotment that me, my partner and our three children can enjoy.
I'm just wondering what the best things for kids and complete novices to grow??

Like Cad said try and look at things you like to eat.
It might be worth (if you decide to get a plot) just mulling over for a while what you want where etc.
Winter is the best time to clear but the hardest time to dig.............so................

Just a question: in your area, do you have to buy an allotment or could you maybe just rent?

Winter is a great time for planning what you want to grow. As Cadalot and Lumpy say, grow what you like to eat!

If you take over an existing plot, you might find there are already some plants in that you want to keep. Otherwise, you've got a blank canvas. So maybe a bit slower to get started, but in some ways more fun.

As part of your planning, you might want to think about plants that will be in the ground permanently or for a long time, such as fruit trees and bushes, rhubarb, asparagus and the like.

So, what do you and your family like to eat?

What ages are the children? giant pumpkins and sunny sunflowers are always good if you have spare space. If they are young drowning plants and making muddy puddles is usually a popular pastime

As others have said grow what you like to eat plus a few things you don't you may find you like them when they are real grown ones
