I've got an allotment in north London (was half a plot, just taken on the full plot).

trying to grow organically and with limited digging (laziness and environmental reasons)

Sounds like if you don't want to use chemicals, you're stuck with it. Keep cutting it back, drown the cuttings to make plant feed, and don't worry too much about it...
